Would you believe it?!

Would you believe it, I saw Worf yesterday. The little fluffy sod. I’m going to squeedge him to death (not really) when I catch him. I looked out the window and there he was, large as life and twice as fluffy, sitting at the bottom of the garden. I’m 99% certain it was him, cos if it wasn’t, then it was his identical twin-kitty. It wasn’t the mini-she-Worf, cos she lives too far away, and anyway this cat looked Worf-sized. There aren’t any other long-haired cats with his colouring (the rusty bit on his chest, etc) round here, and he had the little round name tag like Worfie does, too. Trouble is, I went running out the back door, and the cat legged it. But the time I got to the end of the garden, grabbed Willow (who thought we were going on some big adventure, I think) and looked up and down the path, there was no sign. ARGH!! But if it’s him, that’s good, right? Cos it means he’s nearby and healthy. :-) But I’m still going to squeedge him……

Mini-me!

That there on the left is me….. well, if I was an inch-or-so high cartoon figure. But it’s a reasonable representation, for now. But I’ll be doing the hair-dying thing again soon. So, oh damn, I’ll have to go and play around and make a new me. Heheheh. The times on this thing seem to … Continue reading “Mini-me!”

The times on this thing seem to be skewiff (heh, I’ve never written that before….. wonder if it’s spelt right) again. Hum. And I still feel like cack. I’ve felt a different kind of ill every day this week since Monday. Annnoying, and not at all fun! Today, it’s stuffy nose and headache. But at least I can talk again. Yay me.

More name-generating

Whoo-hooooo! – Emaciated Alcoholic. C’est moi! Sounds good to me! Alternatively, Lou = Lonely Roman, Louise = Evil Monkey (hmm, maybe connected to that search, huh, Megs? *snicker*), Soul’ = Beautiful Shithouse (no comment), and Soulstarsinger = Torn-and-Frayed Bigmouth. Right then. *g* Ta for that link, Megs. :-)

I’m impressed

I’m pretty impressed to say, the UKBAWC seems to be coming up as one of the top search results for “Buffy” on all of the search engines I’ve tried (including some I hadn’t even heard of til I saw them on the site stats). Within the top 50, this is, but mainly way lower. And try searching for Buffy Angel UK, or even just Buffy UK, and *wham*, right up the top. No wonder it gets so many hits! LOL. I must’ve had a search-engine registration spasm when I did the new design last year. Should do the same for my other sites!

And continuing the search-engine testing thing, I’ve discovered that Spiked & Skewered doesn’t even appear on a search for Spike (on AltaVista), but tops the bill for William the Bloody. Fair enough. They’ve got the wrong addy, though….. must sort that out.

I’m bored now. Could do some more website stuff. But I’m going to bed instead. Blah.

That Tripod thing

Seems like the whole Tripod site deletion debacle may have been a technical glitch, rather than a crack down on fan sites. Doi. A glitch which has people screaming for blood, and hate / boycott campaigns springing up. I’m amazed how quickly all that happened, you know. Just goes to show the power and immediacy (is that a word?) of email and the internet. Hmm.

I’m going to put the rest of my fic up at Soulstar today. Should be done in half an hour or so. Other than that, I’ve just mainly been pottering for the last couple of days – got some new affiliates for The Airlock. And I might even get the links page for this site done. You never know. *g*

Layout tweaking

Trying a little layout tweaking at the moment. Reduced the font size, and got rid of the indentation for the posts. Not sure how well that’s going to work, but I know I’m not totally happy with how it was. Maybe the general yellow-ness is starting to wear me down. *g* Who can tell. Dodgy ‘puter

Due to my ‘puter being a bit dodgy these days, I’ve been offline for a fair bit of the weekend so far. Errrmmm…… I’m sure there was something else I wanted to post. Oh yeah! The whole Tripod deletion thing – they seem to be taking down all fan sites for various TV shows. Very odd. Megs has the info on her blog. I did hear that Angelfire and any other Lycos-run sites may be doing the same, but my re-direct page to Spiked and Skewered is still there. Unless they wouldnt’ take that down cos the site’s gone anyhoo….. *shrugs*. It’s a total nightmare for those who’ve lost their sites, though.

I’m wondering whether to bring my little project forward a bit now. Might be able to help a teeny tiny bit. We’ll see. *mysterious grin*

Mmmmm, Thai foooooood

Should you ever find yourself in the town of Beverley, in East Yorkshire, I strongly suggest you try visiting the Muang Thai Restaurant on Lairgate. Went there last night for the second time, and it really is the best food in the world, ever. I just can’t emphasise just how fantastic it is. The atmosphere is lovely, too – small and friendly. They’re always full – booking is a couple of weeks in advance at the mo, I think. And like I said, the food is just……. *falls over from remembered taste-bud overload*

And on another note entirely, I’d been following the posts about validating sites at not.so.soft, Mo Morgan, and My 2p. In a moment of idle curiosity, I thought I’d see how this site checks out. Much to my surprise, it almost validates. The Javascript “type” is missing (cos I don’t remember what it is), and so is the alt tag from the blank gif. Otherwise, there are 3 things from the little “mood” gadget, and that’s it. Wow.

Woohoo, last day!

Woohoo, last day of my run of 4 50-hour weeks. And I’m off for 9 days from tomorrow. I’m soooooo knackered it’s untrue! I’m just planning to get lots of sleep….. oh, and sort out all my websites, and finish unpacking and finally get the house sorted. I’m just planning to get lots of sleep….. oh, and sort out all my websites, and finish unpacking and finally get the house sorted. I’m also going to have one more crack at finding my Worf-kitty – he has to be *somewhere*.

Was tempted to bludgeon B to death last night…… didn’t have the energy, though. *g* I know he can’t help it, cos he’s got a bit of a cold, but his snoring kept me awake for ages, and then woke me up at intervals during the night! The final time was at 5.30am, and I didn’t get back to sleep. This isn’t helping with the tiredness. Still, I guess it’ll give me a bit more impetuous to clear the spare room so I’ll have somewhere to escape to in future! Heh. I apologised this morning for the murderous thoughts……

Oh…… bah!

Oh…… bah! Wrote a great big long post, didn’t think to copy it, and of course the browser crashes when I go to publish. Typical! Doi. I’ll have to try again. My archives had apparently gone for a wander. Odd. I’ve republished them. Still, if that’s the only fallout from the actually-not-very-Great Site Disappearance, I can live with that.

Had an unusual experience at lunchtime. Not interesting, just unusual. See, I’m just under 5’2″, so while maybe not qualifying as ickle, I’m certainly not a big thing either. So I had a bit of a surprise when I tried on a pair of very-fake-but-very-very-cheap fake leather trews and discovered they were a fair bit too short. I think I’d picked up some kiddies ones. D’oh!

I like what this guy, Tom, has to say about letters. Though I don’t quite get why 12-point Arial is sarcastic. It never seemed it to me. Maybe it’s when it’s in contrast to, say 11-point Arial in the same email? Hmm. And I can’t write with a fountain pen, either. My writing is kinda thin and spikey, so however narrow a nib I use, I end up with ink splodges everywhere, the letters all running into one another, and all in all, a great big mess. Nope, it’s ball-points for me. Tom seems like a nice bloke, anyhoo. Maybe I’m just biased towards musicians ;-) But he’s a flautist, and all the flautists I know are cool, so I reckon he is too. *g*

That post, though, has made me realise I really should write to my best friend. I don’t use the phone much for actual voice calls these days (mainly internet access, you see), and I don’t know if she checks her email much, so I’m not even sure if she knows my new address and phone no. Slack of me, I know. When we were in school *in the same class*, we used to write to each other all the time. Even when we were sitting next to each other (which was mostly). {work? what work?}. I found some of those letters not so long ago – paper conversations that probably wouldn’t make a blind bit of sense to anyone else, but were, and still are 10 years later, funny and personal to both of us. So yeah, I’m going to do it. I’ll write her an actual letter. I’m really looking forward to it now. :-) So thanks, Meg and Tom. Letters are good. Letters can be doodled on. Heehee!

Domain snobbery?

Domain snobbery – does it happen? I’m not just talking “I have a domain, so I’m better than x who has their site on a free server”. Which, incidentally, is a big pile of pants, since site design talent certainly isn’t related to the ability to afford and maintain a domain and server space! (See … Continue reading “Domain snobbery?”

Domain snobbery – does it happen? I’m not just talking “I have a domain, so I’m better than x who has their site on a free server”. Which, incidentally, is a big pile of pants, since site design talent certainly isn’t related to the ability to afford and maintain a domain and server space! (See my own sites for reference *snort*). Granted a fair few people who have domains, have them because they’re very much into web design, and want their own space and name and all that, so domain-ed sites are often good stuff. But that’s not what I wanted to ramble about. I was thinking more “My domain’s better than your domain.” See, I have a few domains, and I wuv them all lots an lots. They’re all .co.uk’s though….. some of them are because I specifically wanted a .co.uk, and some cos, well, I pay a nice reasonable price for ’em. Also, I’m from the UK, so why not? Recently, though, (and not in relation to this site, mind you) it seems there’s a real preference to .com and .net’s. Perhaps I’m only just noticing something that’s been around a while. So, apart from being shorter, why would a .com or .net or .org or whatever, be better than a .co.uk or .org.uk? Personally, I quite like the way a .co.uk (or any other country-specific domain) locates a site / webmaster on the otherwise vague international web. (However, having said that, I’ve found a .nu that I might well register for a little project. *g*)

So, thoughts…… is there a better kind of domain? (Is anyone reading this thing? Helloooooo?……)

Phew! Site has returned.

Phew! Site has returned (obviously, if this is readable). Still getting 404 errors last night at home, but I finally managed to ftp in. Megs said she got a bit of it, then it timed out. Could just be the often-crappy-but-free local ISP we both use, though. *g* This morning, checked at work, and all … Continue reading “Phew! Site has returned.”
