Today, I shall be pimping my friends, Holly and Larry. Or more specifically, their new project / website / business / educational game app: Rufus Robot.
(Not, as my Mum thought I said, “Ruthless Robot”. That would be a different game altogether, although Larry, you’re welcome to take that idea and run with it. You’re welcome ;-) )
The mission statement on their website says:
Our goal is to provide fun, useful, and affordable tablet-based applications to the growing number of children who need them. Many of our applications focus on children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but it is our belief that these same tools will be fun and educational for early achievers too!
– Dr Holly Gastgeb
So, if you have or know kids that might enjoy and benefit from the app, go check it out. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter and Google+
I should have taken a back-up after I posted yesterday. I should have known. But silly me, I didn’t. So the entry I did post is gone, eaten I assume by the server move that’s happening with my web host at the moment. It didn’t help that I was having computer troubles the same day.
My livejournal feed did manage to grab the entry before it vanished again, so I can tell you that it was posted at 23:57, the post id is one which doesn’t exist in my current database, and the excerpt text (whyyyyy did I never change to full text feeds?!) says:
“Oh dear, my computer hasn’t been firing on all cylinders today. I’m pretty sure the problem was with my virus checker since it all started after a change to that. I’ve run a ‘repair’ thingy on it, and hopefully everything …”
… and then I continued on to say that all should work now, fingers crossed etc, the end. That LJ feed will only stay there for 10 days, I think, so it’s not a permanent record. Bah!
I hope the mods are OK with counting this for yesterday’s NaBloPoMo entry, considering I did post, but it vanished. I shall drop them a line to check, I think.
I’ll be starting some voluntary work at a local library soon, helping people on the computers and internet. I’ve got to go in for a sort of induction day and an interview, but as I understand it, they’re trialling a tutorial programme to help people who aren’t used to computers, and my role would be to support them using that, and then provide refresher info and help afterwards. Sounds like fun! (No, I’m not being sarcastic, it does.) I’m looking forward to it, and it’ll be good to have something else regular in my schedule.
This evening I’ve been working on my Clapotis [Ravlink] while watching the Glastonbury coverage, and I’ve now tinked back so that I have one repeat of the straight section less, and therefore hopefully enough yarn left now to finish the project. I’d better have, because I’ve started on the decrease section again! Actually, I haven’t got very far into that… maybe I should pop a lifeline in just in case? Better safe than sorry.
